The name of the red and white spot fungus in the game is known as the Super Mushroom.

Super Mushroom offers a certain purpose depending on which game it is found.

Its most popular effects cause the character to double in strength and size.

For example in the first Mario game, once Mario or Luigi has Super Mushroom, they will be twice as large and can smash bricks and receive an extra hit.

Super Mushroom first appeared in Super Mario Bros.

The mushroom has no eyes and comes in red & yellow rather than modern red & white.

In addition, its shape is more like "fungus";

The original Super Mario Bros guide actually called the Super Mushroom "Magic Mushroom", however the name had to be changed quite quickly due to the reference to hallucinogenic mushrooms.

1-Up Mushroom is a green and white mushroom that gives your character and energizes when they eat one.

1-Up mushrooms can be found in all the games where Super Mushrooms come out, although you'll have to find it harder because they aren't more common.

1-up mushrooms are often found in hidden blocks or in places dangerous to the player and sometimes not worth the trouble.

An alternative way to get more life is to collect 100 coins.

Once again Mushroom 1-Up has changed color since Super Mario Bros.

They used to be yellow and green.
