Interesting facts about Hawaii 2, Maine

You might think the number 2 is more important because we're not talking about the beautiful Hawaiian island, home of Honolulu, and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Hawaii 2 is a small island located in Maine, United States.

Hawaii 2 covers only 6 acres of land and is located on Lake St.

As the name Hawaii 2 is, this tiny island is also known as Birch Island and can be found near the town of Liberty.

Cards Against Humanity bought the island in 2014.

Yes, that's right, popular party game Cards Against Humanity, based in Chicago.

The new owners wanted to find a way to raise money for the Sunlight Foundation, so they divided the island into 250,000 parts (each equal to a square foot) and licensed them to members of the public, through their campaign.

This promotion continues from their 2013 campaign where anyone can buy 12 gifts for $ 12, but has a 100,000 limit, meaning not everyone can participate.

After previously joking that the money they donated to the Wikimedia Foundation could buy a small island, the company wasted no time splashing out some cash on Birch Island when it went up for sale.

The sale price has been announced as $ 190,000.

During the 2014 Christmas season, their holiday campaign involved buying ten gifts for $ 15 - less gifts and more expensive than the previous year.

This time, the limit has more than doubled and a quarter of a million people can participate in the promotion.

After receiving nine mysterious gifts as part of the campaign, the last of the ten was a one-square-foot piece of land on their new island - Hawaii 2.

The island was originally called Aries Island.

The island was always known as Aries Island before Cards Against Humanity came along and renamed it, but Google Maps didn't waste time updating the area.

The local government did not immediately accept the new name, and two years later, it is not known whether they have registered it as it is now Hawaii 2.

Owners of the islands can visit their new lands, but that doesn't mean it should.

Everyone tried sailing across the lake to get to Hawaii 2.

Others grabbed an inflatable boat and tried to make the journey.

While this is not a long and treacherous ride, there can be ice and snow in the winter, making it quite unsafe.

However, it was rumored that Cards Against Humanity placed a bunker somewhere on the island, providing the perfect incentive for those curious to go out to sea and into the ocean.

On the other hand, local residents are dissatisfied with the prospect of 250,000 people moving to their small town to try to cross the island.

Cards Against Humanity says they bought it as a way to make the joke come true, but also because they wanted to preserve the small island for generations to come.

It proves a great way to make money for a good reason and is sure to get everyone talking!
